In the third and final part of this analysis on the 5 stars of Athens (always with the help of Hotel Insider), we will try to answer the question:
5* Athens - Price Wars (Part III)
Why does someone find large and famous 5-star hotels in Athens selling their rooms some days at prices around 130 € while others sell at double or even triple prices?

As in Formula 1 racing, drivers who start from low positions try various tricks and strategies to exploit the disadvantages or sluggishness of their rivals in order to achieve the best possible result for their team.

If it's impossible to be first, you should target at least those you can afford to let eat your dust.

So, for example, we see the Royal Olympic Hotel overlooking the columns of Olympian Zeus (through Booking's Partner Offer) rising 10 places ahead of its initial ranking, with 129 € bringing it a breath above the Electra Palace and at a safe distance from all the behemoths that crowd the next places.

The jump of Grand Hyatt Athens is also amazing, with a sale price of 128 € the double room climbed 13 places from its initial ranking and left behind Wyndham Grand, Divani Caravel from Divani Collection Hotels, Intercontinental and Athens Marriott.

Following Grand Hyatt's jumps, Wyndham and Divani Caravel also move up positions to be "in the game" (but with slightly higher prices - see image).

Everyone else does not seem willing to make huge sacrifices in order to improve their positions, with the exception of Athens Key Hotel, which "fights" with 114 €, rising to position 17 in the Competitiveness Index (from penultimate in the initial ranking).

At the bottom of the list are hotels with high prices which are justified due to their location in the center of Athens combined either (a) with limited availability (see THE DOLLI® Athens, Milos Xenodoxeio), or (b) because of their participation in international brands (Starwood etc.) that ensure adequate reservations through these networks.
